Since the beginning of this year, the National Energy Administration has thoroughly implemented the spirit of the 20th Party Congress and the second and Third Plenary sessions of the 20th Central Committee, anchored the goal of reaching peak carbon neutrality, coordinated energy security supply and green low-carbon development, made every effort to increase the supply of clean electricity, and achieved new results in the development of renewable energy.
New breakthroughs have been made in the installed capacity of renewable energy. In the first half of 2024, the country's new installed capacity of renewable energy power generation was 134 million kilowatts, an increase of 24% year-on-year, accounting for 88% of the country's new installed power capacity. Among them, hydropower increased by 4.99 million kilowatts, wind power increased by 25.84 million kilowatts, solar power increased by 102 million kilowatts, biomass power increased by 1.16 million kilowatts. As of the end of June 2024, the installed capacity of renewable energy power generation in the country reached 1.653 billion kilowatts, an increase of 25%, accounting for about 53.8% of the total installed capacity of power generation in China, including hydropower installed capacity of 427 million kilowatts, wind power installed capacity of 467 million kilowatts, solar power installed capacity of 714 million kilowatts, biomass power installed capacity of 45.3 million kilowatts. The total installed capacity of wind power photovoltaic power generation (1.18 billion kW) has exceeded the installed capacity of coal power (1.17 billion kW).
Renewable energy generation has steadily reached a new level. In the first half of 2024, the country's renewable energy generation reached 1.56 trillion KWH, an increase of 22% year-on-year, accounting for about 35.1% of the total power generation; Among them, the total wind and solar power generation reached 900.7 billion KWH, accounting for about 20% of the total power generation, an increase of 23.5%, more than the tertiary industry electricity consumption (852.5 billion KWH) and urban and rural residents living electricity consumption (675.7 billion KWH) in the same period.
Among them, the construction and operation of photovoltaic power generation are as follows. In the first half of 2024, the country added 102 million kilowatts of photovoltaics to the grid, an increase of 31%, including 49.6 million kilowatts of centralized photovoltaics and 52.88 million kW of distributed photovoltaics. As of the end of June 2024, the installed capacity of photovoltaic power generation in the country reached 713 million kilowatts, an increase of 52%, of which 403 million kilowatts of centralized photovoltaic and 310 million kilowatts of distributed photovoltaic.
In the first half of 2024, the national photovoltaic power generation of 391.4 billion KWH, an increase of 47%, the national photovoltaic power utilization rate of 97%.
Construction and operation of biomass power generation. In the first half of 2024, the country added 1.16 million kilowatts of biomass power generation, and the cumulative installed capacity reached 45.3 million kilowatts, an increase of 5.7%. Biomass generated 103 billion KWH of electricity, up 4.7 percent year on year.
